IC Information
Name: Keldor
Canon: Masters of the Universe Classics mini comics [with elements from other iterations added to help flesh things out]
Canon Point: Pre-canon [Secret Origin of Skeletor]; specifically, around the time he starts gathering followers, which is not long after receiving the havoc staff and turning his back on Hordak
Age: Mid-late 20s or maybe early 30s.
Background: Born of a [possibly unknown [though it is implied in one continuity that his mother is Saryn]] Gar woman and the Eternian King Miro [a human], Keldor hasn't exactly had the best of upbringings, despite being of royal blood and a descendant of King Grayskull. As the elder of two brothers, the crown was supposed to go to him upon his father's death. But because of an ancient crime committed long ago by another Gar [Saryn, who had murdered Greyskull upon the advice from someone she and everyone else thought was another Gar], humans tend to look down on Keldor's people, not trusting them at all; considering them "murderers and thieves". More than that, he feels like he's had to work twice as hard to get half the notice his younger brother Randor got [whom Miro doted on and treated as the favourite]. During the time of the Great Unrest, he threw himself into the war, hoping that maybe he might finally get some paternal recognition at last. He wasn't going to get it, though, not after his father was magically banished by Count Marzo, not after he was supposed to be coronated [against the wishes of the human populous, who, with some nudging by a shadowy figure, wanted to have the queen placed on the throne so as not to be ruled by a Gar king], and certainly not after the queen suddenly died after being sent to find her stepson—which led to him being accused of her murder and subsequently banished from the palace without even the luxury of a trial to defend himself and proclaim his innocence, and by none other than Randor himself, which helped lay the foundations of anger and resentment, particularly towards his family.
Determined to one day take back what he feels is rightly his, Keldor wandered about Eternia with few possessions and only the dylinx he'd rescued as a cub, Panthor, as his travelling companion, until he eventually found the shrine of Hordak, a spirit from an ancient time. Identifying himself as Kur to Keldor, Hordak offered Keldor mentorship [and a possible father figure/kindred soul], teaching him magic. Towards the end, Hordak told his student about the havoc staff, sent him to the lost city of Zalesia, where he would face its then-current owner, the Faceless One. Upon receiving a vision, the Faceless One gave Keldor the staff. Once he took command of it, Keldor realised who Hordak really was, and in anger and with a determination to carve out his own path, attacked Hordak and his shrine and left, starting a quest that would see him gather followers amongst the other outcasts of Eternia [including Evil-Lyn, whom he would come to care for and enter into a relationship with] in the hopes of overthrowing the Council of Elders, take back what he believes was stolen from him, and become king.
Of course, it didn't work out that way towards the end, but we're not coming in at the end...
Character Personality: Angry, bitter and resentful, but also ambitious and goal-oriented, Keldor is someone who has experienced more than his fair share of bigotry and prejudice from the humans of his world. He also seeks power, and getting the crown back is the first step to acquiring it. But he is also someone who is likely to be understanding towards those society considers outcasts, and can be somewhat tolerant of others' eccentricities [within reason], and has his own ideas of what fairness and justice is, and just as much as he desires the crown, he also desires to unite his world. Not only that, but he is also quite intelligent and resourceful, and tends to have an even temper. Unless you piss him off. Unfortunately, it's the former, negative traits that can sometimes override the latter, positive ones, and as such he can be quite ruthless, cold and even cruel when dealing with other people. Especially humans, given that they, other than Lyn and maybe a couple others, haven't treated him very well in the past. Even more so if someone were to brush up against his Santa's sack-sized bag of father [and brother] issues...
He ... really doesn't want to talk about that.
Powers: As a sorcerer Keldor is well-skilled in magic, particularly the kinds that require a great deal of study to learn and master. And [based on the original cartoon], Keldor can alter his appearance to suit his needs [not so much shapeshifting as it is using illusions and glamours to disguise himself]. By himself, he's pretty powerful, but the havoc staff serves to amplify what he has by acting as a conduit to tap into Eternia's core. But for the purposes of the game, Keldor will find that the magics of the pokeworld are different to the magics of Eternia, and the aether will feel quite different to what he's used to, and will need some time adjusting to—even with the staff, which won't be able to fully tap into the pokeworld's magic core at first. It won't cause Orko levels of shenanigans and mishaps, and he'll still be able to do magic, but things just won't feel as powerful here as they did back home until he and his tools are properly acclimated.
[Not really a power, but] has in his company a very large, purple cat creature called a dylinx that has been named Panthor. This animal isn't really capable of anything except being loyal, protective, and a form of transportation [Panthor is large—as in, about as big as some of the bigger tigons, or perhaps a pony large enough to carry an adult human].
He is also in possession of a sword, which can be wielded as one blade, or split in two to wield both halves. It's just a sword, though. It hasn't got any special powers in it.
Joining which Corps?: Survey. It'll give him a chance to explore this strange place, and learn and study it, and potentially get away from having to deal with humans.
